While this book was a valiant attempt to combine their tones, parts of the book are noticeably rocky in this regard, which is why it's not higher. Unfortunately for King, he and Richard Chizmar have distinctly different styles. The stakes are incredibly high in the book, as the protagonist must save not only herself but the entire world. The author got the chance to bring in more of his favorite sci-fi influences, as the main character must go from King's cursed Castle Rock to the MF-1 space station. Gwendy's Final Task is a great Stephen King novel, but didn't perform as well as its predecessors: Gwendy's Button Box, and Gwendy's Magic Feather. Now the State Senator, Gwendy must try to hide the box, which is a task when these mysterious forces are on their way. The box has only grown in its evil power as time passed, and now other malevolent forces have come into play as they fight for its possession. Gwendy reconciles with the box, drawn to both its remarkable effects on well-being and its terrible power. The mysterious and destructive button box makes its final appearance after Gwendy has reached fame as a successful novelist and rising political star.
